Welded Steel Chain
What is a welded steel chain?
Welded steel chains are available in coiled or stranded wire and various finishes. Bright and zinc finishes are standard and available in 100-foot cartons and reels. These chains are widely used in general utility applications and are suitable for harsh environments. For example, stainless steel chains have a lower strength range than alloy ones but can withstand corrosive steam and high temperatures.
Welded Steel Chains are high-strength rollerless chains commonly used in the wood industry, aggregate and grain handling, or anywhere bulk material handling is required. Premium heat-treated sidebars are precision machined and welded to the solid tubular barrel and then joined with induction hardened pins for maximum strength and durability. Our chain stores aim to exceed industry standards. Most common sizes are available from existing stock, and welding accessories and paddles can be supplied as turnkey solutions to meet your specific material handling needs.
A new era of chains
For decades, chains have been produced using the same method: cutting steel wire or rebar, bending them into the desired link shape, and welding them together using energy-intensive processes such as resistance welding or flash butt welding.
The limiting factors for this traditional technology are the shape of the chain links (round) and the weldability of the steel grade, which depends to a large extent on the carbon content and alloying elements.
Usage and Performance Limitations(Welded Steel Chain)
These dimensions and associated specifications apply to chains used at or below the working load limit in appropriate physical conditions under normal use conditions.
Use under certain environmental conditions, such as unusual (high or low) temperatures, chemistry, etc., can cause changes in chain performance. Avoid sudden application of dynamic loads that would cause the load on the chain to exceed the working load limit. Individual manufacturers will provide information and advice on the conditions most likely to cause the problem.

How does welded steel chain work?
If you are looking for a strong chain for heavy machinery, you should understand how welded steel chains work. These steel chainrings are welded together on all four sides and usually only have bushings. Used in a variety of applications, this chain is a durable and robust alternative to roller chains. Welded steel chains can be manufactured using different heat treatment schemes and are a cost-effective solution in many rolling mill applications.
Welded steel chains are manufactured using a method called friction welding, which makes them very energy efficient. In this method, wires are cut, bent and soldered. However, traditional chain technology has its limitations, such as the shape of the links and the weldability of the steel grades. Friction welding goes beyond these limitations. This makes welded steel chains ideal for heavy duty conveyor applications.
Welded steel chains are made of high-quality steel with high tensile strength. The strength of the finished chain depends on the size of the welded links. For industrial and agricultural applications, welded steel chains are a good choice. While expensive, they have an excellent strength-to-weight ratio and are resistant to wear and tear. Welded steel chains come in containerized or bulk form.
